Welcome to Doha

Welcome to Doha مرحبا بكم في الدوحة

From a Primary Teacher:
Doha is a sunny a peaceful place to live. People are very respectful of one another and it is very different from the negative reputation that precedes many Middle Eastern countries.

While you may be anxious about migrating across the world, your awaiting team at Al Jazeera Academy will be there to greet you, settle you in and introduce you to your new family.

At AJA, we are a wonderful stew of different flavours from around the world. Your positivity and enthusiasm is highly valued and we look forward to your inclusion in the team.

From a Secondary Humanities Teacher:
I have been teaching at Al Jazeera Academy since I arrived in Doha in Sep 2011. I graduated from the University of St Andrews with an MA (Hons) in Modern History and International Politics and completed my PGCE in History at the University of Durham.

Before moving to Doha, I taught in a range of schools in London and Japan where I gained teaching experience at Key Stage 3-5 in Citizenship, Geography and History. I decided to make the jump to the Middle East partly out of my passion for being a traveller but also to give myself a chance to acquire an additional language.

I'm glad I made the move to AJA as I find the students here inquisitive. From the Model United Nations Club to the Debate Club, they have clearly demonstrated to me that they really want to learn. Ensuring that every child gets the best education possible is a driving force here at AJA and I am privileged to be working with a great team that encourages me to work even harder.

On a final note, coming to Doha is definitely a good move for the sports-lover. With the World cup a few years away and high profile sports competitions practically every month, it is indeed a sporting paradise. As for me I can be found usually down at the Rugby club.

From a Secondary Mathematics Teacher:
I moved to Al Jazeera Academy in September 2011 from the United States. I taught in the U.S. for five years prior to my move; however, I am glad I decided to take this next step in my teaching journey. Learning the Key Stages of the British Curriculum as well as teaching IB classes have both been remarkably rewarding.

Moving to Doha has been a wonderful experience. Learning from and teaching with a wide-variety of backgrounds from all over the world is an experience that one will never forget. The AJA faculty is wonderful and the students are eager to learn.
