Art Field Trip
On the 7th of December, art AS girls went on a trip to Katara, the Cultural Village. This was an opportunity for students to work outside the art room and to get inspired by local artists work. Katara not only has artists work but holds a lot of heritage and culture that would influence students work. At Katara, girls saw artist's paintings and sculptures and observed architectural design. Theyvisited the art center where glass makings of Virginia Commonwealth University Students were displayed. It also had a bookshop for all aspects of art which fascinated students. There were also retail units incorporating different aspects of Design as fashion, jewelry, contemporary objects design, and handcrafts/antiques. Students who took part were Mona Al Majid, Hessa Al Baker, Zara Cleaven, Sara Wanas and Dina Safaa. The teacher supervising the trip was Ms. Janet.

Clubs

Cooking Club
The Cooking Club is one of the most interesting after school activities that Al Jazeera Academy introduced this year. The club is open for anyone who's willing to and interested in cooking. Students from grades 7 and above stay afterschool every Wednesday to learn new recipes, new techniques and the secrets of creative cooking. Participating in the cooking club enables students to improve, not only their cooking, but also their social skills and creativity. The club is spilt into two groups. The club is managed by Ms. Ingrid, the school's Counselor.

MUN (Model United Nations)
What is MUN?
Model United Nations (or MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda.

The participants role-play as diplomats representing a nation or NGO in a simulated session of committee of the United Nations, such as the Security Council or the General Assembly. Participants research a country, take on roles as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to world problems.

During a conference, participants must employ a variety of communication and critical thinking skills in order to represent the policies of their country. These skills include public speaking, group communication, research, policy analysis, active listening, negotiating, conflict resolution, note taking, and technical writing. School delegation formats vary from region to region; however, this year students in Al Jazeera Academy were given 3 countries to represent UAE (United Arab Emirates), Belgium and Denmark. Students were supervised by Mr Steve.

2011-2012 Design and Technology
Design and Technology (D&T) involves students in designing projects through material technology such as wood, plastics, and metals. The purpose of DT is to enhance students' practical and intellectual capability to both design and to make quality products. The subject is taught by Mr. Mike O'Brien. Al Jazeera Academy provides a well-equipped teaching room with a range of equipment and materials to support students' work. MYP students this year have focused on several projects including Key Fob project, Phone Holders, Jewelry design, Bird Nesting Boxes and Chess Boards

Student Awards:
Einstein once said, "if A is success in life then A equals X plus Y plus Z. Work is X; Y is play; and Z is keeping your mouth shut." The year 11 students applied that exact formula onto their scholastic lives; they worked hard, took appropriate breaks when needed, and paid attention to what their teachers had to say. The Academic Year of 2010/2011 has been the most successful year Al Jazeera Academy has ever witnessed. Although it might sound dramatic, it is true to the very last word. Both the boys' and girls' side saw amazing results regarding their Cambridge IGCSE examinations with more than ten students receiving five A's and above. Three students of the girls' side were even awarded certificates from the Cambridge exam board congratulating them on getting the highest grade in Qatar on specific subjects. Listed below are the names of the students who earned five A's and above:

AS 12 Girls

AS 12 Girls (2011-2012)
The AS 12 Girls General Paper Class decided to complete a class project that placed value on student success at Al Jazeera Academy. Within that context, the students interviewed peers, teachers, and faculty regarding trips, awards, events, etc. that occur during the year at Al Jazeera Academy. Because one of the key components of the Al Jazeera Academy educational philosophy is to create environments that foster student learning, we support their efforts and are proud to showcase their work on our website. The head journalists learned valuable editing skills by ensuring the articles were ready for submission. Their names are Youmna Elgaily, Haleema Raja, Dina Mohamed, and Tamador Al-Sulaiti; however, the entire General Paper class contributed to this section. Their teacher is Ms. Aislinn Clinch.
