The school day in the primary school starts at 7.00 a.m. During the day there will be two breaks of 30 minutes each, this is so that children have time to eat, play and for those that want to pray. The Early learning centre day finishes at 12.30 p.m. and the primary school day finishes at 1.55 p.m. We ask that pupils are picked up promptly after that time. For our younger children the Early Learning Centre pupils, Year 1 (Reception-2) and Year 2 (Grade-1) pupils may be dropped off and picked up from their rooms. For our older children we ask that those picking up and dropping children off do so from outside the front entrance to the Primary School and not from the classroom.
Every day the children read, work on the literacy skills and use mathematics, practicing their numeracy skills, each day. All children have physical education and Information Technology each week. They undertake Arabic or Arabic studies every day. For non native speakers of Arabic we have Arabic as a Foreign Language. Year four, five and six also have a French lesson each week. The remainder of the day is taken up with the units of enquiry organized in six transdisciplinary themes.
These themes are about issues that have meaning for, and are important to, all of us. The programme offers a balance between learning about or through the subject areas, and learning beyond them. The six themes of global significance create a transdisciplinary framework that allows students to "step up" beyond the confines of learning within subject areas.
