EY Behaviour Management Guidelines

  Poor / Unacceptable Behaviour
Behaviour Consequences
  Use the 3 warnings system
  • Each class has a behaviour chart with traffic lights (green, orange, red)
  • All students begin each day with their name on the green light and may move between the lights depending on their adherence to the School and Class Essential Agreements.
  • At the end of each day the final stop is recorded on a class list by the teacher.
  • Students who stay on green all week are acknowledged by the teacher and the class (maybe with a class clap during circle time etc). Perhaps those who have visited orange or red lights could also be encouraged to set a goal for the next week and their peers can then encourage them

  • 1st warning
  • 2nd warning
  • 3rd warning = warning = Orange light + Thinking Chair in your own classroom.
  • After the designated time, the student needs to acknowledge the misdemeanour in their apology and rejoin the class.
  • An orange thinking chair slip is sent home to the parents and recorded on the students Anecdotal Record.
Under no circumstances is the child to be left outside the classroom or alone.
  • The student has time to think about his/her actions. This should last no longer than 5 minutes.
  • If negative behaviour continues = Red light + the student should go to the Thinking Chair in a peer classroom.
  • After designated time, the student needs to acknowledge the misdemeanour in their apology and rejoin the class.
  • A red thinking chair slip is sent home and recorded on the students Anecdotal Record.
  • If the student has finished 3 days on the red in one week, s/he has a meeting with HOD and the School Counsellor and it is recorded in the Behaviour Management Record.
