Behaviour Policy

General Guidelines
  • All classroom teachers and their support staff have responsibility for the organisation and management of pupils they are teaching/supporting and the environment in which this interaction occurs.
  • All teachers and teaching assistants are required to make clear expected standards.
  • Work related and classroom behaviour problems should initially be dealt with by subject teachers and the appropriate Head of Group where necessary.

Secondary Behaviour Management Guidelines

  Poor / Unacceptable Behaviour
Behaviour Consequences
 
  • Disruptive behaviour in the classroom
  • Interfering with another's belongings
  • Interfering with property on teachers' desks
  • Constant breaking of agreed class/school rules
  • Inappropriate movement around the school
  • Using inappropriate language
  • Chewing Gum
  • Littering
 
  • Direction and rule reminder
  • Time Away/Time Out- student moves to a seat or a place away from the group until ready to follow rules
  • Two written warnings with a teacher-managed lunchtime detention.

  Serious Unacceptable Behaviour
Behaviour Consequences
 
  • Persistent disruptive behaviour in the classroom
  • Lack of respect and insolence to anyone in school
  • Abusive language / swearing towards any student, parent or staff
  • Interfering with the learning of other students
  • Graffiti or minor damage to school property.
  • Truancy
 
  • Teacher Support - students who are disruptive can be sent to another class with some work.
  • After School detention and/or student daily report.
  • The student is suspended from school for 1-5 days (refer to sanction steps document)
The student may be required to explain his or her actions to:
  • the class teacher and/or
  • parents and/or
  • Coordinator/ Head of School
  • Counsellor

  Very Serious Unacceptable Behaviour
Behaviour Consequences
 
  • Repeated breaking of school rules.
  • Aggressive behaviour or violence towards students or staff
  • Extreme violence towards others or destruction of property.
  In these cases NO warning will be given
  • The Coordinator and Head of School will be notified
  • The student will need to give an account of his or her actions.
After interview:
  • the student is suspended from school for 1-5 days (refer to sanction steps document)
  • parents will be asked to attend a meeting with Coordinator and/or Head of school
  • the student will be required to undergo behaviour counseling
  • the student will go on a daily report which is to be checked every day
Further infringement of school policies or poor behaviour will result in the student's place being withdrawn from Al Jazeera Academy.

Upper Primary Behaviour Management Guidelines

  Poor / Unacceptable Behaviour
Behaviour Consequences
 
  • Disruptive behaviour in the classroom.
  • Interfering with another's belongings
  • Interfering with property on teachers' desks.
  • Constant breaking of agreed class rules.
  • Leaving the classroom without permission.
  • Running around in the classroom.
  • Lying to a teacher.
  • Constant or continued unacceptable behaviour.
  • Insolence to any staff member or other adult.
  • Interfering with the learning of other students.
  • Aggressive behaviour or violence towards students or staff.
 
  • Verbal warnings
  • Repeat offender is sent to UPC
  • Name is entered into the Behaviour Management Record kept by the UPC.
  • If students are sent to UPC thrice within a term, parents will be informed and asked to attend an interview with UPC
  • The student will be required to undergo professional guidance/ behavioural counselling.

  Serious Unacceptable Behaviour

  • Flagrant or constant breaking of school rules.
  • Causing bodily harm or an intent to cause bodily harm.
  • Abusive language / swearing towards any student, parent or staff.
  • Graffiti and serious property damage.
  • Stealing or deliberate destruction of another's property
  In these cases NO warning will be given.
  • Student is sent to UPC
  • Name is entered into the Behaviour Management Record.
Any of the below may be applied:
  • The student will receive ONE (1) break time detention.
  • The student may receive ONE (1) after school detention and will also be put on a one/two week daily report
  • Parents will be asked to attend an interview with the UPC/ Head of School.
  • The student will be required to undergo professional guidance/ behavioural counselling.
  • The student may face suspension from school

Lower Primary Behaviour Management Guidelines

  Poor / Unacceptable Behaviour
Behaviour Consequences
 
  • Disruptive behaviour in the classroom.
  • Interfering with another's belongings
  • Interfering with property on teachers' desks.
  • Constant breaking of agreed class rules.
  • Leaving the classroom without permission.
  • Running around in the classroom.
  • Lying to a teacher.
  • Constant or continued unacceptable behaviour.
  • Insolence to any staff member or other adult.
  • Interfering with the learning of other students.
  • Aggressive behaviour or violence towards students or staff.
  Step One:
Verbal warning and a chance to make amends.

Step Two:
Repeated infraction will result in a "choices sheet" being filled out.

Step Three:
Continued unacceptable behaviour will result in a visit with the LPC.

Incident is recorded in the Behaviour Management Record

Step One:
Teacher fills in "referral/incident sheet"

Step Two:
Student and Parents will be asked to attend an interview with the LPC

Step Three:
Behaviour Management Strategy agreed upon by student, parent and LPC
Incident is recorded in the Behaviour Management Record

 

If a student in either the upper or lower primary schools has been through the steps described above and continues to infringe:

Step one:

The parents will be called in to a meeting with the HOS and Coordinator (Teacher if available) Where all documentation and evidence is presented.

Step Two:

The final strategy for behavior improvement/ management will be agreed upon


1)Continued Counseling for the parents and/ or the student
2) Suspension.

Step Three:

Further infringement of school policies or poor behaviour will result in the student's place being withdrawn from Al Jazeera Academy
 

Early Learning Center (ELC) Behaviour Management Guidelines

  • Disruptive behaviour in the classroom
  • Interfering with another's belongings
  • Interfering with property on teachers' desks
  • Constant breaking of agreed class/school rules
  • Being aggressive/hurting others verbally or physically
  1st warning
2nd warning
3rd warning = Thinking Chair in teacher classroom. After designated time, the child is encouraged to apologise. S/he rejoins the class.

If negative behaviour continues the child should go to the Thinking Chair in a peer classroom.
